PROGRAM NOTE: This piece was written in collaboration with Keith LaMar, a deeply intelligent soul and hungry jazz lover, who has been wrongfully incarcerated for nearly three decades. An already interminable frame of time, he has been forced to carry it out in indefinite solitary confinement, despite years and years of maintaining and proving his innocence Keith's means of communicating outside prison walls lies largely through 15-minute phone calls, during which disruptions are placed every five minutes. For our collaboration, he recorded 30-second videograms through this compromised framework. But the soaring truth, pain and, ultimately, love in Keith's words resonates despite its fragmented state, functioning as an essential lesson of perseverance. Keith is scheduled to be executed on November 16, 2023
